

MUSCAT: Mutasim bin Hamoud al Zadjali, Chairman of Oman Tennis Association (OTA), participated in the General Assembly of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), which took place in the Mexican city of Cancun, amid a large participation of members of the General Assembly from various countries of the world.
The General Assembly meeting witnessed the selection of the new Council of the ITF for the next four years, where it was chosen to re-nominate former American president David Hegerty as president. This is the third session that David enters as ITF president, and it is his last session.
Hegerty beat his French competitor Forne Arnim by 318 votes to 118. Tunisia's Salma Ghazani became the Arab presence in the Council when she won the membership.
During the General Assembly meeting, a project to support lower-level countries in the game was reviewed. The officials held talks on the new strategy for the Davis Cup and WTA Billie Jean King Cup tournaments so that professional players can be present in these tournaments, in addition to attracting emerging players.
They also discussed aspects of internationally prohibited stimulants, the mechanism for stopping them permanently.
Remote training courses and training programmes via electronic systems also came into discussion.
