Hegerty beat his French competitor Forne Arnim by 318 votes to 118. Tunisia's Salma Ghazani became the Arab presence in the Council when she won the membership.

During the General Assembly meeting, a project to support lower-level countries in the game was reviewed. The officials held talks on the new strategy for the Davis Cup and WTA Billie Jean King Cup tournaments so that professional players can be present in these tournaments, in addition to attracting emerging players.

They also discussed aspects of internationally prohibited stimulants, the mechanism for stopping them permanently.

Remote training courses and training programmes via electronic systems also came into discussion.
