Indian School Sur felicitates alumna for UK scholarship

MUSCAT: Indian School, Sur felicitated Riya Raheem, an alumna of 2019 batch for winning the scholarship to study in the United Kingdom. The British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM covers full tuition fee, to and from flight ticket, health insurance, visa and thesis writing charges along with a monthly living allowance of £1,350. With the scholarship, Riya will study MSc in Data Science at the University of Bath in the UK.


Shabeeb Mohammed, member of the school management committee, presented the memento to Riya Raheem. Dr S SrInivasan, the Principal of the school, appreciated Riya for her achievement.


Speaking on the occasion, Dr SrInivasan said that Riya’s achievement is a motivation to all students. “She is the best example for all of us that anyone can achieve success if you have a strong determination and passion together with the right attitude."


“If you have a passion on a particular subject, chase your dream to fulfil it,” Riya said in her speech.


“There are many options available apart from engineering and medicine. It’s you who decides what to choose. If you have a strong passion and are ready to work relentlessly, no one can prevent you from success. I say this from my experience,” she said.


Students of the school interacted with Riya and asked about her experience of winning the award.


After schooling, she completed her bachelor's degree in mathematics from MES Mampad college under the University of Calicut with high distinction with rank. She got the scholarship when she was studying Data Science at the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore. She is also a recipient of the prestigious PM Foundation Fellowship, given to the brightest students in their school board exams. She has won the gold medal at the International Mathematics Olympiad.


Riya dedicated this achievement to her teachers and parents, Raheem Karinkappara and Shahida Thoppil, for the motivation and guidance they had given throughout.
