Muscat to host West Asian U15 tourney in Dec

The Sultanate of Oman represented by Oman Football Association (OFA) in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth will host the tenth edition of the Under-15 West Asian Football Championship in Muscat during December 1 to 10. The event will be under the umbrella of West Asian Football Federation (WAFF).


The West Asian event for the junior players will see attendance of eight confirmed teams namely Jordan, UAE, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Yemen and the hosts Sultanate of Oman. All the participating teams will take part in this event with players born in 2008. The rules and regulations of the tournament will be announced soon accordingly to the announcement of the WAFF in their official pages in the social media platforms.


Oman team, coached by national coach Anwar al Habsi, will eye for a top show in this West Asian assignment. The junior Oman team will take part in Arab School Football Championship which will be held in Egypt in November ahead of the West Asian Championship in Muscat.


The team is busy currently in their short domestic camps as they ended recently the fourth internal camp in Muscat under direct supervision of coach Anwar al Habsi. The previous warm-up gathering featured one friendly match against Al Mudhaibi club which finished in favour of the latter by 2-1. Oman’s goals were scored by Abdulaziz al Balushi.


The national junior team had played series of local friendly matches in the earlier short camps in last August including their defeat against Seeb under-19 team by 5-0. Then, Oman boys had edged Fanja under-19 team 2-0 and Oman’s goals were scored by Ahmed al Jabri. Oman team had received a 3-1 loss against Samayil club under-19 team. In another match, Oman boys had won their game against Muscat club U19 team by 2-0.


The team will report back to their training on Sunday and the camp will run until Tuesday. Head coach Anwar al Habsi opted 25 players for this camp. The squad featured the probables:


Abdulaziz al Balushi, Qusai al Mashakhyi, Fahad al Mashakhyi, Aseel al Habsi, Ali al Awaini, Ibrahim al Shamsi, Rashid al Sulaimi, Abdul Malik al Rahbi, Ibrahim al Tamtami, Al Hassan al Qasmi, Wasam al Qidhi, Riyadh al Tarshi, Mazin al Makhmari, Ahmed al Jabri, Mouadh al Hinai, Firas al Saadi, Mohammed al Salhi, Al Waleed al Buraidi, Yazeed al Mushefri, Yazin al Khalid, Ahmed al Omrani, Al Moutasim al Maqbali, Suleiman al Kharousi, Al Muhannad al Jabri and Mohammed al Mashakhyi.


The last edition of the West Asian U15 Football Championship was held in 2022 in Jordan and the hosts won the title after defeating Lebanon in the final clash 1-0. In 2021, the tournament was held in Saudi Arabia and Yemen team won the title after they had defeated the hosts in the concluding match.
