As we walk through this journey of life, we come across countless people who have inspired us in some way. These inspirational influences uplift us through their guidance, motivate us to question with curiosity and actively listen without judgement nor prejudice.

Naturally, we would be more inclined to lean towards these individuals as intrinsically we know by including them in our circle of trust, our values, principles, standards and tolerances will be honoured.

However, life always throws us curveballs and we need to realise there might be some people that are not giving us the love, credit, time nor presence we deserve.

Dealing with naysayers can be challenging and exhausting. In order to move past the negativity, here are ten tips to help you strengthen your confidence, so it becomes your protective shield against any negative strike.

1. Ignore unconstructive feedback or any non-valuable criticism. If valid criticism is given, consider if there is something to learn. Focus solely on the elements you think will help you improve and grow.

2. Limit exposure and set boundaries while surrounding yourself with people who uplift and support you to reach your aspirations.

3. Seek support and prioritise your needs. Avoid making choices merely to please others.

4. Educate naysayers and prove them wrong. Explain how your vision will have a positive impact on your life. Use the doubters fuel as motivation and turn their scepticism into a driving force to succeed. Be an inspiration, to yourself and others.

5. Stay focused and celebrate your successes. Always keep your goals in mind and strive towards them daily. Let your determination, progress, milestones and wins speak louder than any negative comments.

6. Practise resilience. Develop a thick skin and adopt the ability to bounce back. Over time, you will become less affected by negativity.

7. Focus on personal growth and visualise yourself enjoying the results of your achievements.

8. Practise empathy and stay humble. Understanding that people’s negativity may stem from their own fears or insecurities and to not take things personally, is a skill and an art.

9. Practise further self-compassion, self-love and tuning more into your inner voice and intuition.

10. Stay positive. Move through any negative emotions and come out a victor of your circumstances, not a victim.

We cannot avoid being subjected to circumstantial occurrences, however what is in our control is how much we allow people to consume our energy and how we handle each and every situation, each and everyday.

There will always be negativity around us, it’s the approach we take towards change, prioritising ourselves and managing confrontation which is key. The more we focus on being led by our insights, our desires, dreams and goals, the more we will deflect the potential harm that could be done by those around us.

Becoming head strong in your own resolve will create the protective shield from the naysayers and enhance your inner radiant shine.
