SALALAH: The 56th meeting of the Technical Council of Heads of Standardisation Bodies of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) concluded in Salalah on Monday, September 2023. The meeting was chaired by Dr Saleh bin Saeed Masan, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry.
In remarks to the Observer, Saud bin Nasser al Khusaibi, Chairman of the GCC Standardisation Organisation (GSO), said that standard specifications a total of 241 Gulf standard projects were approved during the forum.
Participants also approval of the formation of an independent metrological technical committee for time and frequency measurements and another technical committee specialized in acoustic, ultrasonic and vibration measurements. They also green-lighted a proposal for the formation of a Gulf technical committee for environment and climate change Earlier, Imad al Shukaily, Director General of Standards and Metrology in the Sultanate of Oman, said that the meeting touched on the most important projects discussed by the general committees related to specifications, metrology, conformity and metrology.
"We added a committee concerned in the laboratories, which is one of the achievements we reached in this meeting," Al-Shukaily said. "We also adopted some Gulf technical projects and regulations, the most important of which was considered in the previous meetings, the most important of which is the Regulation of Water Conservation Resources." Al-Shukaily said that the members of the GCC Standardization Organisation were directed to highlight the importance of adopting the rest of the regulations, which are three other regulations, including the list of low-voltage household electrical appliances.
The Technical Council also approved the proceeding with the adoption of the Quality Award for the GCC States.
"This award is a qualitative leap in the field of quality and will contribute to supporting the efforts of the GCC countries to achieve the highest levels of quality in their products and services," Al-Shukaily said.
The meeting was a success, and the participants agreed to continue their efforts to promote standardization in the GCC.
The 149th meeting of the GSO was attended by representatives from all member states. The meeting was a success, and it helped to further promote joint Gulf action in the field of standardization.
In other news, the GSO is also working on a number of other projects, including the development of a new Gulf standard for food safety, and the establishment of a Gulf conformity assessment scheme.
The GSO is committed to promoting the development of standardization in the Gulf region, and it is working to ensure that the region has a strong and robust standardization system in place.
