MUSCAT: An international hydraulic fracturing conference begins at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, Muscat, from September 12, 2023.

The “International Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference and Exhibition” is organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals.

The three-day event aims to provide industry professionals with a comprehensive understanding of current and future hydraulic fracturing technologies, while simultaneously exploring their potential for enhancing oil and gas production, according to a statement from SAPE.

The conference will include technical presentations from over 50 hydraulic fracturing experts, sessions on sustainability, new digital technologies and growth and development imbalances, and discussion panels with high-level executives.

Alongside the conference will be a technology exhibition featuring over 20 industry exhibitors.

Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a procedure that involves injecting high pressure fluids into underground bedrocks in order to induce fractures, resulting in a higher yield of oil and gas.

Last year, Minister of Energy and Minerals, Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, dubbed hydraulic fracturing as a “game changer” during his keynote speech at the 2nd edition of the conference, “Nothing comes close to hydraulic fracturing. It changed the fundamentals of oil and gas, whether it’s on the oil side or the shale oil and gas revolution that happened in the US,” Al Aufi noted.

The event is expected to attract over 1,000 participants from around the world.
