

MUSCAT: The total quantities of fish landed by artisanal fishing in of Oman at the end of July 2023 reached 395,888 tonnes, with a value of RO 218.316 million up by 5.3 per cent compared to the same period in 2022, with 375,992 tonnes.
Initial statistics issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) indicated that by end of Jul, commercial fishing reached 20,590 tonnes, while the amount landed in coastal fishing reached 3,088 tonnes.
The highest quantity of fish landed by artisanal fishing came in the Al Wusta Governorate, where the quantity reached 150,648 tonnes, followed by the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate with 117,387 tonnes, then Dhofar Governorate with 44,287 tonnes, and North and South Al Batinah with 42,678 tonnes.
The amount of fish landed by artisanal fishing in Musandam Governorate reached 23,892 tonnes, and 16,996 tonnes in Muscat Governorate.
The largest quantity of fish landed by artisanal fishing came from small pelagic fish, as their quantity reached 230,448 tonnes at end of July, compared to 193,982 tonnes at the end of July 2022, an increase of 18.8 per cent.
The quantity of large pelagic fish landed by artisanal fishing decreased by 7.1 per cent, reaching 91,829 tonnes at end of July, compared to 98,863 tonnes at end of July 2022.
The amount of demersal fish landed by artisanal fishing reached 62,883 tonnes, a decrease of 12 per cent compared to the same period in 2022, which amounted to 71,427 tonnes.
As for the quantities of sharks landed by artisanal fishing, they increased by 9.6 per cent to reach 3,708 tonnes, compared to 3,384 tonnes at the end of July 2022.
Regarding crustaceans and molluscs caught by artisanal fishing until the end of last July 4,757 tonnes were caught, compared to 5,146 tonnes at the end of July 2022, and the quantity caughtby artisanal fishing of other fish reached 2,263 tonnes. — ONA
