Muscat: Oman Meteorology has warned of thunderstorms in the mountainous areas of South al Batinah, Al Dhakilyah, Al Dhahira, Al Buraimi, and North Al Sharqiyah governorates.
At 2.20 pm, the Met warned of the beginning of the formation of clouds over the Hajar mountain range, with chances of sporadic thunderstorms, sometimes accompanied by active downward winds.
These areas will receive rainfall ranging between 10 and 30 mm and downdraft wind in the range of 15 to 35 knots.
Poor horizontal visibility is expected due to rising dust, while thunderstorms may lead to flash floods.
Local residents have been urged to move away from low-lying places and wadis.
On Friday, Oman Met reported rain of varying intensity accompanied by active downwinds and hailstones over parts of the Middle Hajar Mountains are the governorates of South Al Batinah Al-Dakhiliyah (Samail and Izki) and North Sharqiyah.
There are reports of heavy traffic congestion on the road leading to Samail.
