Weather: Heavy rains expected today, including in Muscat

Muscat: Heavy rains and thundershowers are expected during the afternoon and evening hours, which will concentrate on the governorates of South al Sharqiyah, North al Sharqiyah, and parts of Muscat, also extending to to Al Dakhyliah, South al Batinah, North aL Batinah, and Al Dhahirah, which may range between 20 mm and 50 mm.


The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) advised all to take precautions during thundershowers rain, not to cross wadis, low laying areas and not to sail during the alert period.


Heavy rainfall will be 20-50 mm and may cause flash floods (wadis).


Fresh downdraft with a speed of 15 to 35 KT (28-64 km/h).


Poor horizontal visibility due to dust rising during thundershowers.


An upper air trough will affect the Sultanate of Oman starting today (April 18) until Friday, April 21, 2023.


The center indicated that there is a chance of cloud advection and isolated thundershowers associated with occasionally fresh downdrafts over the Al Hajar Mountains range and adjacent areas.


The peak of the trough effect is expected over the governorates of South al Sharqiyah, North al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and Al Dakhyliah.
