

Salalah: The 3rd Gulf Forum on Family Policies, with the central theme ‘Practicing Citizenship and Identity in GCC Countries’, will begin in Salalah on Monday.
Over the course of 3-day event, the forum will feature presentations by experts from GCC nations, addressing the concept of citizenship, the role of social policies in fostering responsible citizenship, and the profound influence of citizenship and identity on individual growth, societal cohesion, and stability.
The forum will delve into the fundamentals of crafting effective family social policies for success. It will also undertake an examination and analysis of notable public and social policies that revolve around citizenship, identity, cohesion, and community stability, within both the Gulf and Arab contexts.
Additionally, discussions will encompass challenges unique to the Gulf region, along with initiatives aimed at safeguarding families and advancing citizenship and identity in the era of digital transformation. The forum will draw insights from pertinent national experiences and initiatives.
The event is organised by the Omani Ministry of Social Development and the GCC Secretariat-General, signifying the GCC’s dedication to propelling social development and unity in the region. Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Oman LNG, are co-sponsoring the forum.
As part of the forum agenda, there will be in-depth dialogues on the role of social policies in nurturing responsible citizenship, with a particular emphasis on policies supporting families and children. A comprehensive review will be done of noteworthy public and social policies that address citizenship, identity, cohesion, and community stability across GCC countries.
Additionally, there will be discussions about Gulf-specific challenges and forward-thinking endeavours aimed at securing families and promoting citizenship and identity within the digital sphere. Attendees will also hear illuminating presentations on national undertakings and strategies aimed at bolstering citizenship and identity.
The forum is poised to yield a set of recommendations tailored for GCC policymakers, aimed at fortifying citizenship and identity, nurturing social cohesion, and safeguarding families. These recommendations encompass: Formulating novel social policies that lend support to families and children; Investment in educational and training initiatives that foster active civic participation; Cultivating an inclusive and tolerant society; and Shielding families from the adverse ramifications of the digital era.
