SALALAH, Aug 25

The Taqah Khareef Festival, organised jointly by the Office of the Governor of Dhofar as well as Dhofar Municipality, began on Thursday. Festivities showcasing Taqah traditions and customs are being held on the waterfront in Taqah during the roughly ten-day-long programme concluding on September 2, 2023.

The events will feature a variety of activities, including an exhibition of tools and handicraft products; presentation of folk arts and dances, environmental and marine activities, children's games, beach games and entertainment competitions. Taqah is a popular destination for fishing during the Khareef season.

The Taqah Khareef Festival is an opportunity to experience the best of what Taqah has to offer.

The events are part of the Khareef activities undertaken to promote tourism in Dhofar Governorate. They are expected to attract a large number of visitors from Oman and abroad, as Wadi Darbat is not far away from the city. The festival will help to boost the local economy and create jobs.

A spokesperson for the Governor's Office said, "We are excited to announce the Taqah Khareef events. These events will showcase the best of what Taqah has to offer, and we are confident that they will attract visitors from all over the world."

"The events are also a great opportunity to boost the local economy and create jobs. We encourage everyone to attend and experience the magic of Taqah," the official added.

Visitors can also visit the Taqah Castle, an important heritage landmark, as well as the archaeological site of Samharam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Askar Tower, another heritage monument, has also been opened. There is also a private museum near Taqah Castle.

The events are held from 4 pm to 11 pm daily.
