Owners of green lodges, guest houses, and other hotel facilities licenced by Oman's Ministry of Heritage and Tourism are required to prominently display their tourism licence at their establishments. Additionally, the licence number must be included in social media accounts and promotional materials, the Ministry said in a post. This new regulation aims to ensure transparency and compliance with licensing requirements in the tourism industry.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism introduced this measure to enhance the credibility and accountability of hotel facilities in Oman. By clearly displaying the tourism licence, guests can easily identify licenced establishments and have assurance regarding the quality and authenticity of the services provided. This initiative also seeks to protect tourists from potential fraudulent or unlicenced accommodations.
Furthermore, it is crucial for hotel owners to adhere to the classification, quality, security, and safety standards set by the Ministry. These standards are put in place to maintain the level of services offered by hotel facilities and ensure their long-term sustainability. By complying with these guidelines, hotel owners can provide a safe and enjoyable experience for their guests while maintaining the reputation of Oman's tourism industry.
According to Article 12 of the Tourism Law, no individual or entity is permitted to occupy, benefit from, exploit, or dispose of any tourist site or area without a licence from the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism. Similarly, establishing, operating, or managing any hotel or tourist establishment without a licence is also prohibited. This regulation emphasises the importance of obtaining the necessary licences to engage in tourism-related activities in Oman.
By requiring licences for hotel and tourist establishments, the Ministry aims to regulate and monitor the industry effectively. This ensures that proper standards are maintained, and businesses operate in a professional and responsible manner. Licencing also enables the Ministry to provide support and guidance to hotel owners, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes growth and development in the tourism sector.
Hotel owners and operators should take the necessary steps to obtain the required licences from the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism. This includes submitting the necessary documentation, meeting the prescribed criteria, and undergoing any inspections or evaluations as part of the licencing process. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism aims to raise the contribution of tourism sector to Oman’s GDP to RO 9.5 billion by 2040 from around 11 million tourists. As of last year, the country had around 30,332 hotel rooms on offer to welcome tourists.
