Three die after cars swept into a wadi

Muscat: The weekend rains proved fatal for some families as their relatives were reported to have gone missing after being stranded in flowing wadis.


The Civil Defense and Ambulance Departments, and the Police Command in Buraimi and ⁧‫North Al Batinah‬⁩ governorates, said the two missing persons were found dead.


Earlier In cooperation with the provincial police command at Buraimi ⁧along with the citizens, a person was found dead, and the search had continued for the other two people.


The Department of Civil Defense and Ambulance in ⁧‫Buraimi‬⁩ governorate had received a report about the drifting of two vehicles, including seven people, in the wadi in Mahda, where four of them were rescued, and the other three were reported missing. This set the search party for the missing three.


The authority thanked the citizens for their cooperation with the civil defense and ambulance members during the search operations.


According to Oman Met Office, areas likely to be affected by active downward winds, which is expected to reach higher than 40 knots and may lead to a decrease in horizontal visibility due to the rise of dust and dirt, and the flying of debris throughout the Hajar Mountains.


The weather forecast has also stated that there is continuing chance for formation of low clouds and fog during the late night and early morning of tomorrow in parts of the coastal areas overlooking the coasts of the Arabian Sea, the governorates of Al Sharqiyah South, Al Wusta, and Dhofar, that may affect the level of horizontal visibility.


Along Oman Sea coast, wind direction is expected to be easterly to northeasterly light to moderate changing to southeasterly light to moderate at night, while along the coastal areas of Arabian Sea it is expected to be fresh southwesterly and over rest of the governorates it will be southerly to southeasterly light to moderate occasionally fresh over the desert and open areas.


Sea condition is expected to be moderate to rough along the coastal areas of the Arabian Sea with maximum wave height range between 2.0 to 4.0 meters. Slight along the rest of the coasts with maximum wave height of 1.25 m.


On Monday the weather is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy skies along the coastal areas of Dhofar governorate and adjoining mountains with intermittent drizzle and chances of isolated rain. There is a chance for convective cloud development and isolated rain occasionally thundershowers associated with downdraft over Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining areas. There is also chance of dust rising over the deserts areas as well as low level clouds or fog at late night to early morning along parts of coastal areas of Arabian Sea and Oman Sea.
