The Environment Authority (EA), represented by the Directorate General of Environment in Dhofar Governorate, has launched an ambitious campaign aimed at tree planting in Salalah.

The campaign is part of a series of strategic agricultural projects scheduled throughout the year, and it is designed to expand the green cover and combat desertification in the governorate.

In alignment with the broader national initiative to plant ten million trees in Oman, EA's efforts focus on propagating indigenous wild plants. The campaign is expected to span a duration of five days, during which approximately 5,500 wild trees will be planted in strategic locations across Salalah.

In remarks to the Observer, Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, emphasised the authority's commitment to meticulous planning, especially in preparation for the autumn and Dhofar seasons. These periods witness a substantial increase in the resident population of the Dhofar Governorate.

A pivotal component of the authority's strategy is the implementation of a comprehensive environmental protection programme. This entails mobilising a dedicated team of regulatory experts, equipped with advanced logistics, cutting-edge technology, and specialised devices.

Their role is to ensure the smooth flow of tourism while safeguarding the governorate's essential pastures, forests, and overall ecological balance.

Simultaneously, the authority places significant emphasis on public awareness initiatives. Utilising both traditional and digital media platforms, as well as various television channels, these campaigns aim to educate and engage the public in environmental preservation efforts.

Beyond awareness, EA undertakes proactive measures to restore and enhance the governorate's vegetation and tree cover. Recent milestones include the successful planting of over a million and a half seeds, coupled with extensive consultations involving tens of thousands of wild trees across the mountainous expanse of the far area. These projects extend beyond mere planting, encompassing activities such as expert tree pruning to ensure longevity, revitalisation, and the mitigation of pest-related challenges.

In essence, EA's campaign in Dhofar Governorate underscores a dedicated commitment to sustainable practices and collaborative partnerships. Their holistic approach, spanning from tree planting to awareness campaigns, reflects a profound commitment to preserving Oman's natural heritage for generations to come.
