Bahla: The Department of Culture, Sports and Youth in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate organised a recreational sports programme for older people at Bahla Club as part of the ministry's plan for summer programmes.

The Sports Day was held in cooperation with the Bahla Club, the Ihsaan Association Branch in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, and the Nizwa Healthy City Project. It is an integrated sports programme for 60 elderly women from different places.

The sports day began with medical examinations conducted by nurses from the Nizwa Healthy City Project. Then, a variety of cultural and entertainment programmes followed. The participants enjoyed the activities.

Moza bint Nasser bin Said al Sibaniyah, Sports Programme Coordinator at the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, said: "Sports Day for the elderly comes as part of the ministry's plan for summer activities and programmes for various segments of society in line with Omani sports vision and strategy. The programme aims to spread awareness of the importance of practising physical activity. It also aims to provide a suitable and special environment for physical activity for women of all comforts." Tahani bint Nabhan al Azwaniyah, a legal nurse from the Nizwa Healthy City Project, said: "We took blood pressure, blood sugar measurements, and weight checks before starting the summer programme to check the participants' health. It is imperative to know if participants suffer from high blood sugar or low or high blood pressure. In addition, it is imperative to measure weight, body mass, and fat before and after the sports programme. We are always keen to attend these events to maintain everyone's health." Participants expressed happiness over their participation. Jokhah bint Abdullah al Muselhiyah, one of the participants in the programme, said: "I am pleased with my participation which is away from the daily routine that controls our lives. Such events give us happiness and activity. It is good to meet my colleagues and enjoy educational and sports activities and programmes. We were waiting for the day to enjoy and benefit from it. I also feel comfortable measuring my body mass, blood pressure, and sugar. Thanks to all the organisers who contributed to the success of the event."
