The Royal Oman Police (ROP) responded to the call for blood donation at the Department of Blood Bank Services in Bausher under the Ministry of Health (MoH) recent. Some NGOs also followed the bill and supported the call.

The Al Batinah North Governorate Police Command organised at the Traffic Safety Institute in Suhar a blood donation campaign in cooperation with the blood bank at Sohar Reference Hospital urging the public to come forward to support the need for blood in the country.

"Providing appropriate amount of blood of all types for the benefit of blood banks in the Sultanate of Oman is part of our social support activities to achieve the goals of the Royal Oman Police in community service," said a top-placed ROP official from Al Batinah North Governorate Police Command which organised the blood donation campaign.

Inspired by the call of the blood bank, an NGO named 'We Help', also organised a public blood and platelet donation camp at the Blood Bank in Bausher.

"It is our duty to support any national drive to support such humanitarian causes," said volunteers of 'We Help'.

"Although we conduct blood camps very often, around this time, such a camp was of acute necessity as the blood unit stock depleted due to less number of donors at the blood bank," they added.

A statement issued by the Department of Blood Banks Services (DBBS) urged donors to come forward and help save lives.

“There is a shortage of blood units owing to a smaller number of donors in summer and we, the Department of Blood Banks Services would like to call on everyone to donate blood over the summer months,” the statement said.

The cases that require blood units or one of its components are mostly surgery cases, Raod Traffic Accidents, other accidents related to workplace/home, malignant blood diseases, bone marrow failure, some cases of genetic blood diseases, some cancerous tumours, and in some cases of childbirth.

Anyone who is meeting the eligibility can donate blood from 8am to 8pm, from Saturday to Thursday, and from 8 am to 2 pm on Friday at the Bausher Blood Bank. A call or WhatsApp on 94555648, or by dial 24591255 prior to the visit is highly advised.
