Shabab Al Miragh team lift Elite football league trophy

MUSCAT: Shabab Al Miragh football team won the title of the Al Shabab Elite football league after beating their rivals Shabab al Hufri team 2-0 in the concluding match that took place in Al Shabab greenfield in Barka organized by Al Shabab Club.


Shabab al Hufri team was the winner of the last edition as they had defeated Shabab Al Miragh in penalties, but the latter confirmed their dominance this season to lift the title.


The goals of Shabab Al Miragh netted in the second half as the first half of the match ended in a goalless draw. The former Oman national football team player, Jamal Baksh, was the head coach of Shabab Al Miragh team. He managed to enter the second half with different technique and the squad created the difference.


Mahmood al Balushi scored the opening from header after a perfect cross ball from Jaweed al Balushi. Later, the opponent Shabab al Hufri pressed hard towards registering the equaliser. Jaweed al Balushi benefited from the less presence of defenders to double the score as he made it to 2-0 in the dying minutes to deliver the title for his team.

The winner Shabab Al Miragh football team progressed into the final rounds after they placed as runners up in the group stage. They accumulated 12 points from four matches including four victories and two defeats. In the last 16 round, the champion beat Al Basit football team in penalties before edging Al Harm team in the quarterfinals 2-1. Shabab Al Miragh defeated Al Mazraa in the penalties to make it to semis before lifting the title in the final as they eked out Shabab al Hufri in the final clash.


After the final match, the chief guest Haitham al Buahri, CEO of Al Zawia Company for real estate in presence of Ahmed Abullah al Owaisi, Chairman of Al Shabab Club and officials. The chief guest distributed the awards to the top teams and players who won the individual prizes.


Shbab al Miragh team captain received the trophy and cash prize with gold medals while the runners up Shabab Al Hufri team players received silver medals. Jaweed al Balushi from Shbab al Miragh team named as the best player of the league while Ahed al Hudaifi from Al Shamal team grabbed the top scorer prize with seven goals. Juma al Ghuzaili from Al Harm team claimed the best goalkeeper award. Al Billah football team fans named as the best fans in the tournament. The chief guest honoured members of organising committee, referees and sponsored companies.
