The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, in collaboration with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry branch in Dhofar Governorate, organized a workshop titled "Together to Ensure Freedom of Competition" yesterday. The event aimed to raise awareness and promote economic competitiveness by focusing on the importance of competition protection, monopoly prevention, and fair trade practices.

The workshop featured various informative sessions presented through working papers. These sessions covered essential topics such as the roles and responsibilities of the Center for Competition Protection, Monopoly Prevention, and Prohibited Practices. Additionally, the concept of economic focus, anti-dumping measures, and harmful practices in international trade were discussed.

Zaher bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Director General of the Center for Competition Protection and Anti-Monopoly Prevention at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, delivered a speech emphasizing the vital role of competition in driving economic and social development. He highlighted its impact on stimulating innovation, improving product quality and services, creating employment opportunities, and benefiting consumers through competitive pricing.

Al Mahrouqi emphasized that protecting competition and preventing monopolies are at the core of the ministry's economic and commercial agenda. These initiatives align with the Sultanate of Oman 2040 vision, which emphasizes competitiveness as a key driver of sustainable growth and economic prosperity.

The workshop was held under the auspices of Shaikh Tariq bin Khalid al Hinai, Governor of Taqah, with the participation of government officials, business leaders, and owners of small and medium enterprises in the governorate.

In conjunction with the workshop, the Ministry launched the 'Together to Ensure Freedom of Competition' campaign. Scheduled to run until September 18, the campaign aims to raise awareness about the Center for Competition Protection and Monopoly Prevention, disseminate information about the Competition Protection and Monopoly Prevention Law and its executive regulations, contribute to economic growth, enhance economic competitiveness, cultivate a culture that protects competition and prevents monopolies, promote the principles of a free market, and highlight the significance of anti-dumping laws in safeguarding the national industry.

By organizing this workshop and launching the campaign, the Ministry of Commerce seeks to empower businesses, encourage fair competition, and create a level playing field that drives economic progress in the Sultanate of Oman.
