The newly launched national career guidance platform will serve as the missing link that connects jobseekers with Oman’s labour market, according to a key official of the National Employment Programme (NEP).
Speaking to the Observer, Eng Azhar al Kindi, Technical Director, explained how the platform has the potential to solve gaps in the labour market.
“[The platform] is the missing piece between job seekers, particularly skilled graduates, and the job market.” According to Al Kindi, the platform will serve as a resource that will educate job seekers and students about different careers and their requirements, something he considers as essential amidst the recent economic growth in the country.
“There has been a significant economic growth in past two years in the country, one would hope that it will reflect into jobs for Omanis.” “If we don’t allow Omanis and equip them with the right tools and skills, they may not be able to meet the requirements of these jobs.“ According to officials, the platform “Khuta”, will serve multiple demographics including: school students, university students, graduates, or employees looking for a career change.
The platform will provide a comprehensive guide about different vocations and their academic and professional requirements, in addition to an extensive guide about academic programs in Oman.
Additionally, it will offer users access to over 100 courses in addition to virtual job training opportunities The platform is part of the National Employment Program (Tashgeel), a nationwide programme launched in accordance with Vision 2040 to address employment concerns in the country.
