As many as 18 teams will take part in the Asian event including two Gulf teams Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. All the participating 17 teams were distributed into six Pools. Pool A comprised the hosts Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan. Saudi Arabia headed Pool B alongside Thailand and the Korean Republic. Uzbekistan grouped with India and Hong Kong in Pool C. Magnolia clubbed with the Philippines and Macedonia in Pool D. Australia headed Pool E with Pakistan and Vietnam. Bahrain grouped with Sri Lanka and India teams in Pool F.

FIVB international coach instructor will be responsible for different roles in his new assignment at the AVC Challenge Cup. “The main roles of the technical committee are summarised in doing the inspection to all facilities of the host country which will organise the tournament including the venues and teams' practices areas. Also, the committee will be in charge of analysing the technical plans and aspects of all the teams during the tournaments and distributing all the heads of pools to the second round of the championship. Besides that, the other roles of the committee are an explanation of events rules and technical updating of game rules and competition for all the participating teams,” Dr Shihab said.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to the AVC family for their confidence in me and for providing this golden opportunity to be part of the AVC Challenger. I am also grateful to the AVC Coaches Committee and I wish this event will be a great success. This is ranked as the second big championship and I am happy to be selected for this tournament in the Asian continent,” he added.

AVC Challenger Cup is a new event launched last year by AVC. “The strength part of this event is that the main stronger volleyball teams in Asia will take part in this event and this will reflect highly on the performance of volleyball level in the continent. This event will present participation of some Arabian teams and it will be a positive step for involving in Asian competition and gaining the desired experience and enhancing players’ experiences at the Asian level,” FIVB international coach instructor said.

AVC Challenger will act as a real step for many teams in their preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and it is scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
