

MUSCAT: In a twin programme, Ahmad Bin Majid International School (ABMIS) held its 16th graduation ceremony for students of grade 12 pursuing the National Diploma at the Oman Convention and Exhibitions Centre.
The event was held under the auspices of Dr Badria bint Ibrahim al Shihi, Deputy Chairperson of the State Council, who presided over the Girls' event while Dr Ali bin Amer al Shidhani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology graced the Boys' programme.
Jointly, the Guests of Honour, Members of the Board, and the Principal, conferred to the graduates the Diplomas and Excellence Awards.
In her speech, Principal Jihad Abu Talib highlighted the achievements of the school in various aspects including academics, sports and holistic development of its students.
A graduate, Abdulaziz bin Ali al Balushi said, “I’m excited to move on to the next chapter of my life. At the same time, I’m sad to leave my friends and all the memories I have of high school.”
Likewise, May bint Said al Maawali, an IGCSE student, shed light on a chain of ABMIS' successes, including, winning the Cambridge Top in the Country IGCSE Arabic Award that is considered to be one of the top ranking awards in the Gulf Region. ABMIS also secured the 1st position in the Arabic Poetry Competition among 32 other private and international schools.
Other prestigious achievements include ABMIS' Sailing Championship -- likewise, the first of its kind to be organised by a private school in the GCC. The school also actively participates and supports charity events.
At the occasion, ABMIS' vision of leadership and excellence was reflected in the baton of leadership handover by the Head Prefects to their successors, respectively. Awards were presented to students who had excelled in academics, sports and art and to those who were committed to upholding the core values of ABMIS, namely, Leadership, Citizenship, Resilience and community service.
Makarim al Akhlaaq was presented to the students who embody the virtues of honesty, tolerance and generosity.
Mohammed bin Mubarak al Balushi, also a graduate with mixed emotions said, "Graduation has bitter and sweet feelings. I’m happy to embrace a new chapter in my life. I will miss all my friends and the school routine. The future seems scary, but it is consoling to know that all my classmates are in the same boat and we will overcome all obstacles with hardwork."
