

MUSCAT: The Omani Association for School Sports will organise the Barzman School Run 2023 on Friday at 3:30 pm in Al Sahwa Gardens. The event will witness the participation of 200 students from schools in Muscat Governorate, along with parents, children and the public.
The Barzman School Run, a running competition for male and female students in the third and fourth grades from public, private and international schools in the Governorate of Muscat, will cover a 1.5-kilometre distance for boys and 1 kilometre for girls.
The aim of the event is to instil healthy lifestyles among children and young students and promote awareness and a beneficial sports culture among students.
The event also aims at building bridges of cooperation with private sector institutions to create a healthy and athletic school community. The event is aimed at raising the technical and skill levels of talented students in the sport of running, and work to raise their physical and health competence and abilities.
A number of institutions, including Muscat Municipality, Ministry of Health, Royal Oman Police, Oman Diabetes Association, Sultan Qaboos University (Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences), and government and private media agencies and institutions, are contributing to the event.
On the sidelines of the race, several accompanying activities for participating students and their families will be held, including a children's theatre in which fun competitions will be held for children, activities in general hygiene, preserving the environment, implementing health awareness campaigns, face painting, walking activity for parents and children not participating in the race, and children's characters (mascot), along with a corner for the Omani Diabetes Association and life skills games.
Competitors will receive a medal for the race upon reaching the final line, and there will be special prizes for the contestants.
