MUSCAT: Prominent Omani oilfield services company RAY International Oil and Gas has successfully conducted the first TCP CT perforation in Yibal Khuff horizontal wells in Oman. The achievement marks a significant breakthrough in the company’s efforts to enhance productivity and maximise oil recovery from the Khuff formation. The perforation resulted in a production gain of 350 metric tonnes per day.
Tubing Conveyed Perforation (TCP) is a method of deploying perforating guns on the same production string to save time.
It is then extended to cover highly deviated or horizontal wells and also wells that require long perforating intervals.
This achievement was recognised across PDO UWI (Petroleum Development Oman Upstream Well Integrity) for meticulous performance on Yibal Khuff.
RAY International Oil and Gas has been working on developing and fine-tuning the TCP CT perforation technique for several years, and the successful completion of the first operation in the Yibal Khuff horizontal wells is a testament to the company’s expertise and commitment to innovation.
The Yibal Khuff reservoir is a significant source of hydrocarbons in Oman, and the successful application of TCP CT perforation is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s oil and gas industry.
The technique has the potential to unlock new reserves and boost production rates, thereby contributing to Oman’s economic growth and energy security.
The Yibal Khuff, a complex undertaking project, was set up with an investment of around $2.6 billion and was inaugurated in December 2021.
It is one of the largest of oil & gas projects in the upstream sector of the industry that joins the likes of land ventures, such as the Rabab Harweel Integrated Project of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), and the Khazzan Central Processing Project of BP Oman.
Majority government-owned PDO, the country’s largest producer of oil and gas, has also billed it as the company’s second project and the most technically complex as well in its history.
Located around 360km southwest of Muscat, the Yibal Khuff Project (YKP) began production in September 2021.
The successful implementation of TCP CT perforation in the Yibal Khuff horizontal wells is a major achievement for RAY International Oil and Gas and a significant development for the oil and gas industry in Oman.
The company’s continued investment in innovation and technology is expected to drive further growth and success in the years ahead, while also contributing to the sustainable development of Oman’s energy resources.
