Oman’s Fatik Abdulghafoor claimed the first gold medal for Oman in the 23rd edition of the Arabian Athletics Championship currently underway in Morocco until Saturday.
The gold medal was obtained in high jump competitions after Abdulghafoor registered a jump with a mark of 2.15 metres while the silver medal went to Iraq's athlete Hussain Falah Hussain with a mark of 2.12 while Qatar’s Hamdi Abkar finished third with a jump of 2.12 metres.
In other competitions, Oman’s Barakat al Harthy was placed sixth in the men’s 100 metre race after he registered a timing of 10.64 seconds. The gold medal was clinched by Qatar’s runner Femi Ogunode as he clocked 10.19 seconds while the silver medal was bagged by Saudi’s racer Abdullah Abkar Mohammed with a timing of 10.29 seconds. Egyptian athlete Ali Ashraf took the bronze medal in a timing of 10.33 seconds.
Oman’s Mazoon al Alawi ended her participation in the women's 100 metre at the fourth place. She ended the race in fourth place with a timing of 11.99 seconds. The gold medal went to the Egyptian athlete Basanat Mohammed Awadh while the silver medal was bagged by Lebanon’s Sabiti Aziza as she clocked 11.69 second.
Kuwait’s Madhawi al Shummari ended the race in third place and got the bronze medal with a record of 11.76 seconds. Mazoon took part in the women's 100 metre hurdles and she placed in the fifth position after she clocked 14.85 second.
Egyptian runner Lina Amro registered 13.55 seconds and won the gold medal. Al Nadi Noora from Morocco ended the race as runners up with a timing of 13.73 seconds and took the silver medal while her teammate Ruzqi Dhua ended at 14.15 seconds and claimed the bronze medal.
The national hammer throw record holder Mubeen al Kindi placed in the ninth place of hammer throw competition. He cleared 56.97 metre while the Egyptian athlete Mustafa al Jamal snatched the gold medal with a throw of 75.70 metre.
Egyptian athlete Ahmed Tariq Ismail ended as runners up with a throw of 70.65 and Tunisian Mohsin Annati finished third with a throw of 67.48 metres.
