HH Sayyid Bilarab visits international organizations in Switzerland

GENEVA: Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham al Said, Honorary President of Promising Omani Startups Programme, visited a number of international organizations, research centres and business incubators in Geneva in the Swiss Confederation.


HH Sayyid Bilarab met with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

During the meeting they discussed the leading role the WTO plays to overcome the challenges facing the global economy as well as the developments in negotiations at the Organization, global economic opportunities, procedures for ratification of the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, and opportunities of cooperation for supporting innovative and technological startu-ps.

HH Sayyid Bilarab also met with Daren Tang, Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).


They reviewed aspects of cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and a number of other topics including the frankincense project which will be implemented in cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the WIPO, next July.

HH Sayyid Bilarab also visited the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) which specializes in advanced physics research which is the nucleus for the foundation of the global information network (Internet).

HH Sayyid Bilarab is accompanied during the visit by Qais Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, Halima Rashid al Zar’ee, Chairperson of the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED), and owners of Omani startups whose business is based on innovation and technology.


The delegation also comprises working teams from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, ASMED, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and the National Programme for Investment and Export Development.
