MUSCAT: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism launched the “Change the atmosphere” campaign to boost domestic tourism during the summer season and introduce new heritage and tourist sites. Through the campaign, the ministry aims to positively benefit the tourism sector partners.
The campaign includes the promotion of museums, commercial and entertainment centres, moderate-temperature places such as Jabal Shams and Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, and the beaches of Al Sharqiyah South Governorate and Al Wusta Governorate, in addition to marine activities.
As part of the campaign, tour companies are offering cruises and adventure tours, complete with accommodation, shopping and restaurant offers. It is noteworthy that the promotion of the campaign in the summer comes in cooperation with tourism sector partners and commercial centres, through various promotional means, including social networking sites, local radio stations, outdoor digital screens, social media influencers, and others. Statistics issued by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism showed that the number of visitors coming to the Sultanate of Oman during the first quarter of this year amounted to about 956,600 visitors, of whom 322,400 came from GCC countries.
Statistics indicated that the occupancy rate of hotels operating in the Sultanate of Oman during the first quarter of this year amounted to 38 per cent. The Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah is witnessing a large turnout of tourists and visitors from Oman and abroad who flock to the wilayat to enjoy the cool summer weather.
As many as 57,867 visitors, among them 16,476 Omanis, arrived in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar during the first five months of this year, according to the NCSE.
The Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar has been the scene of active seasonal rains, with overcast skies, and this made it a regular hotspot for many in the summer.
