UTAS Shinas launches ‘We Read to Advance’ initiative

SHINAS: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Shinas launched the ‘We Read to Advance’ initiative in its first edition, targeting more than 400 beneficiaries of university students.


Dr Nawal bint Saif al Balushi, an Arabic language lecturer at the Department of Business Studies, says, “The initiative aims to promote a culture of reading among students, and to form a conscious and educated generation capable of understanding the daily scientific and practical life.”


She indicated that the initiative, which began in February 2023, provided training workshops on the importance of reading for the individual and society, and how to use the daily reading, in addition to encouraging dialogue.


The initiative also is concerned with activating critical reading skills in the university environment, and oral communication skills that serve the academic and scientific affairs and help research and community studies.


She added that the initiative benefited more than 400 male and female students to read, in addition to encouraging the reading of paper and electronic books and exchanging them with each other, enhancing the sense of social responsibility in commitment and transferring the knowledge and experience gained.
