In line with the Environment Authority's (EA) endeavour to support the national initiative of planting 10 million trees, the EA's branch in Al Dhahirah Governorate inaugurated a new nursery on Thursday in the Wilayat of Ibri in order to provide logistical support within the expansion of establishing tree nurseries in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

"Establishing new nurseries comes from the standpoint of providing the seedlings required for cultivation operations to supply the national initiative with the various types of Omani trees targeted to be planted during the current plan, which contributes to accelerating the pace of work and enhancing the green area in the governorate in record time," said Fahd bin Said al Nasri, Director of Environment Authority Department in Al Dhahirah.

He added, "This nursery is a quantum leap in the governorate, as it will save effort and reduce cost in terms of providing seedlings for the various regions of the governorate to ensure achieving the goals of the national initiative to plant 10 million wild trees.

The nursery, which is located on an area of 2,000 square metres, contains facilities for the operations of propagating and cultivating seeds and seedlings, in addition to offices and a warehouse for storing seeds.

The nursery is expected to produce about 100,000 seedlings of trees and wild plants during each cycle of various plants from the Omani environment.

This modern nursery relies on the economical use of water through storage ponds for those seedlings; then, the water is recycled for irrigation.
