The Sultanate of Oman is among the most Arab countries affected by cyclones.


Following is the history of cyclones in the Sultanate of Oman.


* 865: The first devastating cyclone struck the country’s north.


* 1286-1898: Several cyclones and severe storms hit many parts of the country.


* 1959: A cyclone hit a ship in the south killing all 141 passengers on board.


* 1977: A cyclone hit Masirah Island in the worst natural disaster in the 20th century.


* 2002: A storm killed 9 people and caused $25 million worth of damage.


* 2007: Cyclone Gonu, the most devastating storm in the Arabian Sea, hit the country.


* 2010-2011: Cyclone Phet hit the country.


* 2020: Severe tropical depression hit Dhofar Governorate bringing the highest rainfall amount in the country.


* 2021: Cyclone Shaheen struck North and South Al Batinah Governorates causing significant damage to infrastructure and buildings.
