Oman national cricketer Sufyan Mahmood bagged the Filmfare Middle East Second Best Sports Influencer of the Year 2023-24 award after being nominated to the finals from among 300 sports persons of the Middle East at a glittering Filmfare function in Dubai recently.
The Filmfare Social Night at Palazzo Versave Hotel on May 31 was attended by several celebrities from the entertainment industry in Middle East and India. Sufyan, who made his debut for Oman in 2009 ACC tournament, won the prestigious social media award for the first time owing to his huge following in Instagram and Facebook.
The fast bowling all-rounder has also played in two Twenty20 World Cups (India 2016, Oman 2021) for Oman. "My strong social media fan following helped me get the award. There was a voting link and three judges were making the final decisions on the event day," Sufyan told Oman Observer.
"On Instagram I have 138k followers and 58k on Facebook," he said. Sufyan thanked his company Renaissance and promoters Stargold and HalaTaxi for the support. "My family and friends and the Oman Cricket fraternity led by Pankaj Khimji always supported me too," the Omani cricketer added.
