

MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Civil Aviation Authority, will host, on January 16, the third meeting of the Middle East Aviation Security and Facilitation Group, in cooperation with the Regional Office for the Middle East of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The meeting aims to provide a regional structure for cooperation, coordination and implementation of an action programme that supports the regional performance framework for aviation security and facilities, to reduce risks related to aviation security in the Middle East region and to enhance state security initiatives in line with the global plan issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
It also aims to develop and update the civil aviation security and facilitation plan for the Middle East region, promote the achievement of aviation security and regional facilitation goals, identify and prioritise countries’ needs with regard to the aviation security and facilitation programme, including capacity-building projects and coordinate necessary assistance activities with the concerned countries.
The meeting sheds light on identifying opportunities to equip resources and encourage countries and stakeholders to provide voluntary financial and in-kind contributions to support aviation security assistance and facilities projects in the region.
The meeting will discuss about 30 working papers, including 6 working papers for the Sultanate of Oman, to be presented by aviation security experts at the national and operational levels, specialists in the Civil Aviation Authority and the General Administration of Airports Security, airport and aircraft operators and ground service providers.
The opening of the meeting will be attended by Eng Nayef bin Ali al Abri, President of the Civil Aviation Authority, in the presence of the Director of the Regional Office for the Middle East of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
