The Sultanate of Oman, known for conducting a moderate, balanced, and diplomatic foreign policy, has been a long-time friend of Iran. It has served a stabilising role in the Middle East since the Late Sultan Qaboos ascended to power in 1970.

The Omani-Iranian relations were built on a firm and solid foundation, including good neighbourliness and non-interference in internal affairs, which contributed to resolving a number of contemporary regional issues, as the two countries hold political discussions on a regular basis, the most prominent of which will be held during His Majesty's visit to Iran.

Oman's foreign policy is largely geared towards securing peace and prosperity within the country's own borders. This outcome is most realistic when stability and security exist across the wider region, which helps explain why the country has spent decades pursuing a friends-of-all foreign policy to ensure that Oman does not make enemies.

In this regard, Iran is not an exception. The Omanis have generally sought to achieve neutral positions vis-à-vis regional and international conflicts, and its neutrality means that Oman has long served as a diplomatic bridge between regional and international actors, including Iran and the West.

The official visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the Islamic Republic of Iran on Sunday affirms the advanced relations between Oman and Iran. These relations are based on mutual respect and good neighbourliness, and the talks to be conducted by His Majesty the Sultan with President Dr Ebrahim Raisi of Iran, will also exchange views on a set of regional and international issues.

Recently, the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian appreciated Oman's role in lifting sanctions on Iran, describing it as "constructive and fruitful". In a statement to ONA, he said that the Sultanate of Oman has serious initiatives for the Iranian nuclear deal that will contribute to returning to the negotiations. Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks during his meeting with Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, in Muscat.

"We discussed bilateral cooperation and our shared commitment to fostering regional security, stability and constructive dialogue among all countries," Sayyid Badr tweeted.

The Omani diplomacy created space for converging the contentious points of view between the Islamic Republic of Iran and a number of countries, which permanently yielded positive results. In addition, the good relations between the two countries contributed to the release of a number of people of different nationalities who were detained by the Iranian authorities on security grounds.

Ibrahim bin Ahmed al Muaini, Ambassador of Oman to Iran, affirmed that the official visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Iran would contribute to the development of relations and that Oman and Iran enjoy historical and stable relations, pointing out that Oman relies in its relations with other countries on several principles, including credibility and transparency. "These principles enabled Oman to play prominent roles at the regional and international levels," he said.

Ali Najafi Khoshroudi, Ambassador of Iran to Oman, reiterated that Oman has a special place in Iran's foreign policy. "Iran's supreme leadership always lauds Oman's balanced and influential role in the regional and global arenas," he said.

The Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran have historical relations that have been strengthened by joint cooperation over the past 50 years, mutual interests, and good neighbourliness.
