Comex 2023- A platform to showcase progress in digital transformation

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIIT) has said that the contribution of the communications and information technology sector to the gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to reach gradually to 10 percent by 2040.


The ministry said that the government that nearly 80 percent of government services are done online while the satisfaction rate of beneficiaries of e-government services is around 60%.


The average performance of government institutions in digital transformation for the year 2022 is 62 percent, while the readiness perspective for digital transformation is 63 percent.


Muscat Municipality launched the trial version of the 'WhatsApp with Maeen platform, which will provide a new means of communication between beneficiaries and the municipality, in addition to simplifying procedures and targeting citizens and residents.


This platform is characterized by the presence of an automatic response feature and includes five services, including providing pest control reports, renewal of building permits, and company registration, in addition to a request to cancel a parking violation, and a report related to electronic services.


The municipality presented the digital electronic system to facilitate and accelerate the procedures of the no-objection certificate, which is a specialized certificate for excavations and the supply of electricity and water lines and telecommunications companies.


Requests can be approved via one platform to save time and effort. The transaction to obtain the NOC can be done from three days to eight days.


Muscat Municipality plans a unified municipal system, which aims at governance, management, and sustainability for all sectors of municipal work and is unified for all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.


It is also linked to artificial intelligence and the smart city project.
