

MUSCAT: The first Forum for Persons with Disabilities organized by the Ministry of Social Development under the title ‘Integration and Empowerment’ concluded at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, on Wednesday.
The closing ceremony was presided over by HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defense Affairs.
The three-day event saw the participation of more than 65 public and private institutions, international establishments and civil society organizations.
The forum aimed to review the products, systems and services rendered to the disabled, facilitate the exchange of information and thoughts and enhance the innovation system for the persons with disabilities. It also aims to increase public awareness of the rights of the persons with disabilities.
Over three days the forum saw the conduction of several dialogue session and presentation of a working papers including on ‘Developing Vocational Training Programmes and Work Environments’, which dealt with vocational rehabilitation approaches for persons with disabilities such as the functional medical approach which focuses on the medical diagnosis and professional limitations of the persons with disabilities to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the job. — ONA
