

MUSCAT: The Shotokan Karate Centre has completed preparations for holding the National Shotokan Karate Center Championship under the umbrella of the Oman Karate Committee. The championship will be held at the Ahli Sidab Club Sports Hall in Darsait, Muscat on May 5 under the auspices of Shaikh Salem bin Hamad al Mahrouqi, Chairman of the Oman Karate Committee, member of the Majlis Ash’shura, representative of the Wilayat of Adam.
Regarding the tournament and the preparations, Shotokan Karate Centre Chairman Sensei Navaz Mukeri, said: “This national championship comes within the annual plans of the centre as 15 clubs, centres and academies practising karate have been registered and they are represented by 200 male and female players of different age groups and weights.
Sensei Hilal al Abdali, a member of the Shotokan Karate Centre, stated that what distinguishes this version of the tournament is the participation of 15 clubs, academies and private centres for karate namely Shotokan Karate Centre, Buraimi karate Academy, AIKI School of Martial Arts, Beats club , Bushi Do Kai Karate, Eagles Samayil Karate, Freedom Karate Team, International Academy for Individual Games, International Shotokan Karate Federation, JKA Oman, Karate Stars, Muscat International Karate Academy, Professional Karate Club , Shito- Ryu Oman Karate Do Kai and Karate Champions Club. We expect great competition among the karatekas of the participating clubs, an exchange of experiences in the field of karate sport, and the discovery of top talents for the national teams.”
Sensei Youssef al Siyabi, Head of the Shotokan Karate Centre Coaches and Vice-Chairman of the Referees Committee of the Omani Karate Committee, said this national championship will be managed by a group of referees who carry international and continental badges in addition to a group of national and resident referees.
Sensei Munther Bilal, a member of the Shotokan Karate Center, said the centre will hold a lecture for the coaches and another for the referees on May 4. “The lecture at the Ahli Sidab Club Sports Hall will focus on some points that the club coaches should follow with their players during the competitions as well as for the referees. The practical application of the amended International Arbitration Rules 2023 will also be discussed,” he said.
