Oman Hockey Association (OHA) Chairman Dr Marwan bin Juma al Juma, who became the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Vice-Chairman was honoured by United Thalasserry Sports Club (UTSC) on Tuesday night.

In this connection, the UTSC held an ‘Iftar’ gathering at Hotel Haffa House in Ruwi, where the community came together to celebrate the holy month of Ramadhan. The event was attended by several OHA officials, prominent business people and members of the community.

The UTSC club, well known for organising the AHF-recognised Gulf Hockey Fiesta – a vibrant 5s hockey tournament participated from across the region and India – honoured the OHA chairman with a traditional Kerala gesture of ‘ponnada’.

Anoop Bijli, Second Secretary of the Embassy of India, and Lijihas Ussain of UTSC presented Dr Marwan with a plaque to commemorate his achievement.

Speaking at the event, Anoop Bijli said, "It is an honour to be here to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan and to recognise the achievements of Dr Marwan bin Juma al Juma. His appointment as vice-chairman of the Asian Hockey Federation is a testament to his dedication and hard work, and we congratulate him on this achievement."

Lijihas Ussain on behalf of UTSC added, "Dr Marwan is a true inspiration to all of us, and we are proud to honour him for his accomplishments. We hope that his success will inspire others to strive for excellence in their own pursuits."

Dr Marwan expressed his gratitude for the recognition, saying, "I am humbled and honoured to receive this recognition. This appointment is not just a personal achievement, but a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Oman Hockey Association. I look forward to working with the Asian Hockey Federation to promote Hockey and bring it to new heights."

During the function, UTSC also honoured Manha Mariyam for her achievement in the CBSE National Athletics in India. Manha, a student of ISM hailing from Thalassery in Kerala, won a gold medal in the 4x100m relay.

“Her achievements have brought great pride to the Thalassery community and UTSC,” the UTSC organisers said.

United Thalassery Sports Club (UTSC) is a club based out of Thalassery, India. It has been the pivot and backbone of many sporting activities in India and now has a significant presence across the Middle East having spread its wings to Oman, UAE and Saudi Arabia.
