Gear up for yet another week of clouds and rains, as the latest weather updates and analysis of the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center indicated that an upper air trough is likely to affect the Sultanate of Oman starting from Monday until Wednesday.

The weather forecaster at Oman Met Office said the peak would be on Tuesday, “Although the impact of the trough will begin on Monday, the peak would be on Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday morning as per the current situation. The direction it’s heading from is the area between Saudi Arabia and Iran.”

Clouds advection, he said, in some areas could be with isolated rain but could be occasional thundershowers in other regions. The initial impact is expected over the governorates of Musandam, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi and Dhofar and is expected to extend till Tuesday and then it will expand to cover the governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, Muscat, South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta along with occasionally thunderstorms associated with downdraft wind and hail.

During this period wadis are expected to flow. The wind speed is expected to be moderate to rough along most of the coasts with maximum height ranging between two to three metres.

The Civil Aviation Authority has requested the public to follow official weather bulletins and stay away from flowing wadis.
