MUSCAT: The Oman national football team will take on Lebanon on Monday in a friendly during its domestic training camp currently underway in Muscat. The match will begin at 10 pm at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex and it is the only warm-up game in the ongoing gathering.

The current local training camp is part of the team’s preparations for the forthcoming assignments including the top participation at the AFC Asian Cup championship in Qatar which is scheduled to take place during January 12, 2024 until February 10, 2024.

The AFC Asian Cup’s draw will take place on May 11, 2023. Oman placed in the second ranking of the draw. Asian favourites Japan followed by Iran, South Korea, Australia and Saudi Arabia are positioned in the first ranking.

The national players are undergoing the training sessions at the camp, which started on Monday, under the watchful eyes of Croatian head coach Branko Ivankovic.

The duration of daily training programme of the Red Warriors varies from two hours to one and half hours. The training sessions timing during the holy month of Ramadhan starts from 10 pm and will conclude at midnight. The previous practice sessions focused on the physical, fitness, technical and tactical sides. Also, coach Ivankovic implemented different techniques in attacking and defending plans to address some weakness areas. In the latest sessions, Branko finalised the starting line-up which will enter in Lebanon’s encounter.

Despite that there is no close events soon but the existing warm-up camp and the preparatory game against Lebanon will assist the coaching staff to stand on the progression of the player’s technical performance and to evaluate the new faces in the Red Warrior’s squad. It is also an opportunity to utilise the Fifa days and gain more points for the monthly Fifa world ranking.
