Ministry's Shield basketball begins today

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Basketball Shield 2023 tournament is set to kick off on Sunday, featuring the participation of six clubs distributed into two groups.


The first group includes Nizwa, Al Bashayer and Oman Club while the second group features Al Seeb, Ahli Sidab, and Salalah clubs. The competitions will be held in the sub-hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher and will conclude on April 1.


The tournament will begin with a match in the second group between Al Seeb and Salalah. On Monday, the Ahli Sidab and Salalah teams will meet in the same group.


The first group matches will start on Tuesday, with a match between Al Bashayer and Oman Club. On Wednesday, Ahli Sidab will take on Al Seeb in one of the strongest confrontations in the group.


The tournament will feature a one-round league system in its preliminary round. The first-placed team in the first group will meet in the semifinals with the second-placed team in the second group. Similarly, the first-placed team in the second group will meet the second-placed team in the first group. The winners will advance to the final, and the two losers will play for third place.


The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth is organising this prestigious basketball tournament, which is one of the most popular events in Oman. Basketball enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting and entertaining tournament in the coming days.
