

MUSCAT: Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) held its fourth meeting of the fourth annual session, under the chairmanship of Shaikh Abdullah bin Shuwain al Hosni, Chairman, on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the committee hailed the Royal Decree No 16/2023 ratifying the Sultanate of Oman’s joining the Arab Charter on Human Rights.
OHRC said the Royal Decree affirms the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to the United Nations’ charter and principles and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) as well as the provisions of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the regional and international treaties and conventions on human rights.
The meeting discussed several topics pertaining to the work and activities of the committee in both local and international domains. It debated ways of activating the commission’s role to deal with human rights issues through monitoring and receiving reports and its role in reviewing the upcoming activities and programmes for the current year. — ONA
