The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Oman Human Rights Commission, OHRC, will celebrate International Human Rights Day on Monday, in the presence of His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd al Said, Secretary-General at the Secretariat-General for the Council of Ministers at the Civil Aviation Authority hall.

During the celebration, six humanitarian initiatives will be honoured for their roles in providing free shelter for children with cancer and their families; providing counselling and educational support, monitoring the psychological, social, cultural, and health challenges faced by young people, and providing a safe and supportive environment for child development. These initiatives provided support to parents to create a safe and healthy social and psychological environment and to build partnerships with government and private institutions and civil society organisations.

In addition, OHRC has been keen on its early intervention to deal with disabilities that may occur to children, raise the level of community awareness about autism spectrum disorder, activate the role of the injured and enhance their participation in society, protect children from exposure to exploitation, and enhance their confidence in themselves and their communities.

International Human Rights Day comes in commemoration of the day on which the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948.
