Cabinet presents water strategy

The German government has launched a national water strategy in order to secure water supply in the future despite the consequences of climate change.


The Cabinet approved a draft by Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke from the Green Party including an action programme with about 80 measures on Wednesday. The draft includes improving water storage in smaller communities and nationwide guidelines in the event of a water shortage.


According to the Ministry of Environment the strategy is designed fora period up until 2050, with the first measures set up to gradually come into effect as early as 2030.
