RFQ floated for Salalah-Thumrait Truck Road

Muscat: The Ministry of Finance has floated the Request for Qualification (RFQ) for the design, construction, finance, operation, and maintenance of the Salalah-Thumrait Truck Road (STTR) under Public Private Partnership Agreements.


It may be noted that the ministry unveiled revealed of 25 investment opportunities in the field of transport and logistics during the year 2023, namely the Mabela-Thamid road, Thumrait-Salalah truck road, commercial activities in Port Sultan Qaboos, the establishment of commercial ports in Sadah, Dhalkut, Shinas, Sinhas Sur), land transport tracking system, and the installation of smart scales on the main roads.


"As part of Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects and in order to encourage the private sector to invest in infrastructure projects and public services, the Ministry of Finance (MOF), in coordination with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), seeks to engage the private sector in Salalah-Thumrait Truck Road (STTR) development project under PPP agreement."


The STTR is a 67-km road, the first of its kind in Oman, specifically designed for heavy vehicles.


Interested local and international companies may obtain the qualification document by sending an email outlining the company name, competent staff name, contact number, and email ID to: ppp.roads.sttr@mof.gov.om.


The last date for obtaining the qualification document is April 13, 2023, and the last date for submitting the document is May 4, 2023.


Last year, The Ministry of Finance (MOF) launched the request for Expressions of Interest (E0I) for the design, construction, finance, operation, and maintenance of the Salalah- Thumrait Truck Road under Public Private Partnership Agreements.


An additional expressway will be added to the existing Salalah-Thumrait road. The trucks will be obliged to use this expressway with payment of a crossing fee, the public can also use the expressway.'

"These projects will be implemented under PPP and consistent with Oman Vision 2040 and its relevant strategic plans. The implementation of selected projects under PPP will help reduce the construction cost or operating expenses and it will not create any additional burden on the budget."
