On a mission to explore the world on a bicycle, 30-year-old Austrian cyclist Jürgen Weiss started a journey from his home country eight months ago. On Wednesday, he landed in Muscat, the Sultanate of Oman.

“I have done more than 17,000 km by the time I reached Muscat after cycling through more than 20 countries," Jürgen told the Observer.

“I started around eight months ago from my home country, and first cycled to the North Cape in Norway, and then back to Austria on the other side of the Baltic Sea (up across Sweden, down across Finland)," Jürgen added.

“From Yerevan in Armenia, I took a flight to Amman in Jordan. I continued my trip across the Dead Sea, Petra and Aqaba. Then to Saudi Arabia: Tabuk, Madina, Jeddah and Riyadh,” he added.

From Riyadh, Jürgen cycled to Kuwait, Dammam, Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE before reaching the Sultanate of Oman. “I carry around 50-60 kg of weight, including my bike and the entire luggage,” he said.

On what he does while on the road, Jürgen said: “On my travels, I mostly sleep in my tent and cook with my gas cooker. I have also been often invited for food and a sleeping opportunity.”

After Oman, invited said he would go to India. “I want to go to India and then South East Asia, for example, to Thailand,” he said.

While in Muscat, Jürgen is staying with Nawaf al Sulaimani, who is an avid walker. “I am happy to host Jürgen at home. He will be in Muscat for a week before he travels to India,” Sulaimani told the Observer.
