Oman qualify for tent pegging World Cup

Hosts finish top in Qualifier event; Yemen second, Iraq third

Oman national tent pegging team snatched the first qualifying cards for the tent pegging World Cup in South Africa 2023, at the end of the World Cup qualifiers hosted by the Sultanate of Oman from March 4 to 7 at Al Rahba Farm in Barka.


Oman team achieved four gold medals, two silver and two bronze medals to emerge overall champions with 559 points. Yemen came in second with 547 points while Iraq finished third with 528.5 points.


First-placed Oman and second-placed Yemen qualified to the World Cup in South Africa from the Oman Qualifying tournament.


The Championship was organised by Oman Equestrian Federation under the supervision of the International Tent Pegging Federation. Five teams competed in the championship including hosts Sultanate of Oman, Kuwait, Yemen, Iraq and Germany.

The third day competitions were on the sword rounds. Yemen’s Osama Abdul Khaliq al Hamzi claimed the gold medal in the individual sword category with 82 points. Iraq’s Abdulhameed Rashid took the silver medal with 80 points while Oman’s Hamad bin Saif al Raisi won the bronze with 76 points.


Osama also won the gold in the general category with 161 points, Abdulhameed took the silver with 152 points and Oman’s Atta bin Khamis claimed the bronze medal with 151 points.


In the team category, Oman national team snatched the gold medal after collecting 282.5 points, Yemeni team won the silver medal after collecting 275 points, while the bronze medal was claimed by the Iraqi team, which scored 272.5 points.
