MUSCAT: Committed to meeting Oman’s growing energy demands while maintaining the right equilibrium between economic growth and social and environmental needs, Oman Shell recently confirmed its participation at the upcoming Oman Sustainability Week as the strategic partner.

The key national event, hosted under the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, is scheduled to be held on March 12-16, 2023 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC). Dedicated to the future of energy, power, water, waste, environment and society, it will offer a platform for global stakeholders, sustainability experts and industry leaders from different sectors. Representing Oman Shell at the event will be Walid Hadi, Country Chairman and Senior Vice President and Malak al Shaibani, General Manager, External Relations and ICV.

Through its dedicated booth, Oman Shell will share its inspiring journey toward driving sustainability while highlighting the progress it has made in contributing to carbon neutrality by developing green hydrogen in Oman through its Green Hydrogen for Mobility project. The company will also showcase the initiatives that were undertaken to empower the youth under its Shell Nawafidh and Shell NXplorers programmes. To honour the second batch of Nawafidh students and applaud their relentless dedication, Oman Shell will host a graduation ceremony as part of OSW.

Commenting on Oman Shell’s participation in OSW, Al Shaibani said, “OSW is set to take place at an incredibly critical time as Oman has made significant progress in its energy transition agenda. An event of such scale further reaffirms the country’s unfaltering commitment to attaining net zero emissions and shifting to a green, circular economy. With hydrogen being identified and promoted as a green fuel, ESG mandates becoming a mainstay across every sector and the establishment of Oman Sustainability Centre, the nation is uniquely positioned to set new benchmarks and pioneer innovative efforts in the realm of sustainability.”

She added saying, “At Oman Shell, the values of sustainability are embedded into our DNA and are integrated into everything we do. We are indeed delighted to be a critical part of OSW and aim to showcase our key initiatives and exchange knowledge with our partners and other experts in the field. Through our projects, we also seek to inspire the larger community and encourage them to take concerted action. It is quintessential to acknowledge that embracing and advocating sustainability is the responsibility of every individual.”

Oman Shell is strongly aligned with Oman Vision 2040 as well as the UN Sustainable Development Goals and has been revered for upholding the highest levels of ethicality, transparency, and integrity in operations. With a number of sustainability-centric endeavours under its belt, Oman Shell has remained dedicated to its mission to reduce carbon emissions.

OSW will commence with the Oman Sustainability Week Awards on March 12 at the OCEC Ballroom A. Co–organised by be'ah, the awards are underpinned by an internationally recognised framework established by the Center for Sustainability and Excellence (CSE) that focuses on the achievements of organisations around ESG and provides recommendations for future undertakings in line with Oman Vision 2040. The annual national awards will be geared at acknowledging organisations in the Sultanate of Oman that have excelled in areas of sustainability and corporate responsibility while highlighting the key endeavours that differentiate them from others in the field.
