MUSCAT, DEC 11

Oman Shell successfully concluded its participation as principal sponsor of the second edition of the Green Hydrogen Summit and Exhibition Oman (GHSO) on Wednesday, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC).

The three-day event, which took place from December 5 – 7, provided a unique platform for international and Omani energy industry stakeholders to engage, network and unlock new partnership opportunities in an endeavour to develop this new sector in Oman.

The summit also saw three speakers from Shell presenting their views on the future of hydrogen in Oman, namely – Paul Bogers, Shell’s Vice President of Hydrogen, Tom Clarke, Oman Shell’s General Manager, Commercial and New Business Development and Basil Elzein, Integration Manager at Oman Shell.

Oman’s leading platform for green hydrogen, the GHSO Conference and Exhibition focused on the nation’s plans and strategies to develop a world-class industry that will meet the energy needs of the Sultanate's future low-carbon economy, and enable Oman to become a major global supplier of the alternative clean fuel.

Speaking on the future of green hydrogen and its relevance in Oman, Paul Bogers, Vice President of Shell Hydrogen, said, “The momentum behind the development of hydrogen has been growing in recent years, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. More countries are embracing its potential and we are particularly excited about recent developments in the Middle East and Oman in particular. Geographically, Oman has a competitive advantage when it comes to developing green hydrogen, and has an important role to play in the hydrogen economy. With the potential to develop green and blue hydrogen on a commercial scale, hydrogen will play a big role in decarbonising heavy industry.”

Commenting on Oman Shell’s participation in the Green Hydrogen Summit and Exhibition Oman, Walid Hadi, Senior Vice President and Country Chairman of Oman Shell said, “We are excited to participate in the second edition of the Green Hydrogen Summit and Exhibition Oman as principal sponsors. At Oman Shell, we see this summit as a platform for pivotal discussions on sustainable development, and the way forward to achieve Oman and Shell’s 2050 Net Zero ambitions. We see a bright future for the development of a green hydrogen ecosystem in Oman, and we look forward to sharing that success with the world.”
