The gold rush to AI powered search engines

Search engines have become an integral part of our daily lives. We use them to find information, products, and services online. Google has been the undisputed leader of the search engine industry for over two decades, with a market share of over 90%. However, a new generation of search engines powered by artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging, and they may challenge Google's dominance in the market in the coming years.

One such company is You.com, an AI-powered search engine that aims to provide more personalised and relevant search results to users. If successful, You.com could capture a significant market share of the search engine industry, which is projected to be worth $27.77 billion by 2025, according to a report by Zion Market Research.

Assuming that You.com captures 5% of the search engine market by 2025, which is a realistic goal given its unique approach to search, it could potentially reach a valuation of $27.8 billion by 2025.

These projections are based on several factors, including the projected growth of the search engine industry, the unique approach of You.com to search, and the potential for AI-powered search engines to provide more personalised and relevant search results to users.

If you think of it, Google rarely gives you an answer. Usually the search results are displayed in form of a list of websites that might contain the information that you are looking for. But if you ask for a very specific question to Google. The other day I was in a sports apparel and accessories shop. I found a cool bag meant to store table tennis rackets. I do not have table tennis rackets to store, but I have an iPad. So I measured the bag with a tape measure and “googled” whether an iPad could fit in it. No luck. On my mobile, 100% of the first page of results were iPad for sale, with no measurements in centimetres. Then I used You.com, and immediately I got back not 1, not 2, but 5 results answering the question in the first page.

Bing, owned by Microsoft, has come a long way since its initial launch in 2009. At the time, it was seen as a direct competitor to Google, but it failed to gain traction in the market, with many users finding its search results to be less relevant and useful than Google's.

However, in recent years, Bing has undergone a significant transformation, thanks in part to the implementation of AI-powered search algorithms. Microsoft has invested heavily in AI technology, and this has led to significant improvements in the quality and relevance of Bing's search results.

One of the key advantages of AI-powered search algorithms is that they can analyse vast amounts of data and provide more personalised and relevant search results to users. Bing has leveraged this technology to provide more accurate and useful search results, which in turn has led to increased user satisfaction and engagement.

In addition, Bing has also implemented a number of features and functionalities that are not available on other search engines, such as the ability to perform complex computations and provide answers to specific questions. This has helped Bing to differentiate itself from other search engines and attract more users.
