The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation launched the fourth graduate survey for 2023 for strategic planning for higher education in the Sultanate of Oman under the auspices of Dr Bakhait bin Ahmed al Mahri Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for Higher Education, Starting from February 13, the survey will continue for a month.

The survey aims to assess the output of higher education institutions and the programme majors' compatibility with the labour market requirements.

This survey targets 72,000 graduates from educational institutions inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.

Dr Bakhait al Mahri said, "This survey is a continuation of the previous surveys of graduates conducted by the ministry, and the feedback will help the strategic planning for higher education in the Sultanate of Oman."

He added, "Everyone is aware that skill development has become one of the most important strategic goals of education in developed countries in recent times, as it is a wide field for students to interact efficiently with the world's changes and the accelerating labour market, as the requirements of the global market for jobs are constantly changing so we must prepare our cadres to compete globally through their access to this market as experts and specialists. Oman's labour market is not isolated from these changes, as it is also witnessing rapid change due to the different types of foreign investments attracted in the Sultanate of Oman, the successive technological developments and the fourth industrial revolution."

Maitha al Lawati, Assistant Director of the Department of Statistics and Information, added that the graduate survey is one of the most important research tools used to study the reality of higher education outputs and the needs of the labour market.

Many countries allocate research centres concerned with applying and analysing the data of such surveys and providing the competent authorities with the latest and most accurate results.

Dr Yaqoub bin Juma al Raisi, Director General of Planning, said: "We seek to have the largest possible number of targeted graduates participate in this survey to be able to collect data that will contribute to developing the necessary plans, whether for the government or public or private educational institutions. We hope that a larger number of graduates will participate."

The Graduate Survey 2023 is the fourth national graduate survey conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, represented by the Department of Statistics and Information, which targets graduates of 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 from all higher education institutions inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.

The benefits of the graduate survey project include graduates identifying the best means to obtain job opportunities and knowing the skills required by the labour market.

Also, students and parents should get acquainted with the programmes and specialisations required in the labour market and higher education institutions to benefit from graduates' opinions in improving and developing their academic and professional programmes.
