Workshop motivates students to read

Nizwa: A workshop titled 'Reading skill' held in Nizwa focused on inculcating reading habits among students.


The Creativity Center for Culture and Innovation organised the workshop in cooperation with the Omani Society for Writers and Literati.


About 37 students from the fourth to the twelfth grade attended the workshop. Dr Taiba bint Abdullah al Kindiyah from Sultan Qaboos University presented the workshop.


The workshop included a theoretical and practical side in several areas.


One of the course's themes included the wisdom of relating the reading to the first verse revealed in the Holy Quran.

The definition of reading and the importance of reading in personal, social, scientific, and practical life were also discussed in the workshop.


It also deals with how the individual prepares for reading before, during, and after reading.


Taiba al Kindiyah also talked about the problems that may hinder reading and how the reader can overcome them.


She showed a film by Ahmed al Shugairi about his beginnings with reading and its impact on his life.


On the applied side, the students narrated some books and stories they had read and admired.


The students selected some books and stories and read them during the workshop, and shared the reading strategies they learned in the workshop.
